What was the food like?
Food in Rome wasn’t overly special, they had no Italian food, they had no potatoes, tomato’s, corn, peppers, rice nor sugar. To most a daily diet consist of cereals, bread, vegetables and olive oil, and not a lot of meat because it was very expensive. Many Romans ate foods that they grew but some bought foods from other countries. For breakfast they world have bread, wheat pancakes eaten with dates or honey and for drinks there was water and wine served in jugs. The triclinium Is where the rich Romans held dinner parties and each party went for 8 hours.
